I suspect a network card issue and will investigate firmware upgrades. However, as a multi-year multi-product Epson user, many less expensive than this receipt printer — this level of flawed software development is inexplicable. I do understand that this is oft-intended as a POS device.
The product was simple and straight to the point. I was able to easily figure out how to use the device without any prior experience. Transactions were easy, fast and made the start to.my small business the kick that it needed to push more sales with more options to pay. I love how easy it is to carry along and keep with me in my bag if I wanted to. So glad to have this device !
The Ethernet printers compatible with Square Point of Sale are thermal printers. They call for heat-sensitive paper and won’t work with non-thermal receipt paper. These types of printers typically aren’t excellent for kitchens or high-temperature working areas.
Atm it’s cheaper for me to use something else other than square, than to change the printer tablet setup. It appears other people have similar issues. Square managment need to grasp the economics here of only catering to a small hardware segment(Star printers) of the market, while marketing themselves as a simple DIY eftpos POS for small businesses, who burn themselves on compatability issues. Hopefully Square can solve this issue.
It was too good to be true for too long. Square, the innovative start-up that turned smartphones into credit card processors just killed its flat fees for small companies, effective in February. Instead of charging $275 for up to $21,000 in monthly transactions, the company is moving to a 2.75 percent swipe fee, or 3.5 percent plus $0.15 for each manually entered transaction.

Use Cases for WIFI: WIFI Enabled Printers are popular for using in place of LAN Printers where Ethernet cables are not convenient to install. They allow you to place your printer close to a power source as long as it is within range of your WIFI network that your mPOS system is on. Due to this you can position your printers where they make the most sense instead of needing to plan out where your LAN cable will work. However, with a WIFI setup you will need to keep in mind all the barriers between your WIFI Printer and WIFI router to make sure it’s receiving a strong signal for reliable usage.

Wireless printing is hugely convenient, because it makes it easy to share your printer with your computing kit. All the main printer manufacturers now include models in their ranges that have Wi-Fi onboard. Typically you’ll find wireless built-in to models that cost from £40 and upwards, so you don’t necessarily have to spend big to get this functionality. Wireless printing is supported on HP’s Deskjet 3000 (pictured, below right), which is priced at just £45, for example.
With AirPrint you can print from Safari, Mail, Photos, iWork and PDFs in iBook, and there are a number of third party iOS apps that support printing, too. If you choose to print a photo, AirPrint will even automatically select your printer’s photo tray, if it has one.
The best part about this package is that each one comes with both a regular card swiper and a chip reader square. This is great since so many cards are now going to chip but you still need a swiper for regular cards.

I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion. The Square reader is super simple and easy to use. It is an especially good tool for small business owners who want to accept additional forms of payments(such as credit or debit cards) Additionally, the app on the google play store was easy to find and very straightforward. One downside, although somewhat expected are the fees associated with it. For example, 2.75 percent for credit card transactions. Other than that, I recommend this product for it’s simplicity and overall use. 4/5 stars.
No matter what you pick, be scrupulous in reading all the information available as there are various little limitations and special conditions that you might run into. For example, rewards cards, corporate cards, and certain other types may not qualify for the cheaper swiped processing rates. So, before you go with anything, read all the fine print.

Examples of widely used contactless smart cards are Taiwan’s EasyCard, Hong Kong’s Octopus card, Shanghai’s Public Transportation Card, South Korea’s T-money (bus, subway, taxi), London’s Oyster card, Beijing’s Municipal Administration and Communications Card, Southern Ontario’s Presto card, Japan Rail’s Suica Card, the San Francisco Bay Area’s Clipper Card, and India’s More Card which predate the ISO/IEC 14443 standard. The following tables list smart cards used for public transportation and other electronic purse applications.

Workhorse Printer. Love the quality. (TCP/IP) Network setup can be a bit of a pain, otherwise 5 stars. I am no network slouch; I have configured nationwide ip networks for fortune 100 corporations, I know how this stuff works. These printers are just tricky to set up with very little (English) documentation. Once done, it works great.

There are two broad categories of contactless smart cards. Memory cards contain non-volatile memory storage components, and perhaps some specific security logic. Contactless smart cards contain read-only RFID called CSN (Card Serial Number) or UID, and a re-writeable smart card microchip that can be transcribed via radio waves.
Receipt printers are vital for any POS system. Available with thermal, impact, or inkjet printing, a good printer will provide your business with many years of solid service. POSMicro carries a wide variety of printers from leading manufacturers including Epson, Citizen, CognitiveTPG, Star, POS-X, and Ithaca.
Before you actually connect your printer to your computer’s USB port, make sure you’ve loaded the printer’s installation software from the CD-ROM that it came with. It will guide you through the setup process and ask you whether you want to use a USB or Wi-Fi connection. Simply choose the Wi-Fi option, select your network name and enter its password. The software will send this data to the printer’s memory and then install the drivers on your PC. Don’t forget that you’ll also have to install the printer drivers on all the PCs in your network that you want to be able to use for printing.
Smart cards can be physically disassembled by using acid, abrasives, or some other technique to obtain direct, unrestricted access to the on-board microprocessor. Although such techniques obviously involve a fairly high risk of permanent damage to the chip, they permit much more detailed information (e.g. photomicrographs of encryption hardware) to be extracted.

Toner cartridges: A SpencerLab 2013 study commissioned by HP compared Original HP Mono LaserJet toner cartridges with ten brands of non-HP cartridges sold in North America for the HP LaserJet P2035 and P1102 printers, HP 05A and 85A cartridges. For details, see www.spencerlab.com/reports/HP-Reliability-NA-2013.pdf.
Smart cards are being introduced in personal identification and entitlement schemes at regional, national, and international levels. Citizen cards, drivers’ licenses, and patient card schemes are becoming more prevalent. In Malaysia, the compulsory national ID scheme MyKad includes 8 different applications and is rolled out for 18 million users. Contactless smart cards are being integrated into ICAO biometric passports to enhance security for international travel.
Like smart cards with contacts, contactless cards do not have a battery. Instead, they use a built-in inductor, using the principle of resonant inductive coupling, to capture some of the incident electromagnetic signal, rectify it, and use it to power the card’s electronics.
When two or more contactless cards are in close proximity the system may have difficulty determining which card is intended to be used. The card-reader may charge the incorrect card or reject both.[10] This is generally only an issue where a service provider uses a payment card to facilitate access – eg a wallet containing a parking lot access card, an apartment building entry card and various contactless payment cards can usually be used on entry to a car park or whatever – the car park entry system can detect its own card in the wallet and open the barrier. In a retail shop, however, it is advisable to remove the individual contactless card from the wallet when making a payment. At the very least this gives the cardholder the opportunity to communicate which card they intend to be used to make payment. It is an issue of the card identifying a subscription -v- payment by transaction.[clarification needed]
There are dual-interface cards that implement contactless and contact interfaces on a single card with some shared storage and processing. An example is Porto’s multi-application transport card, called Andante, that uses a chip in contact and contactless (ISO/IEC 14443 type B) mode.
A contactless smart card is a contactless credential whose dimensions are credit-card size. Its embedded integrated circuits can store (and sometimes process) data and communicate with a terminal via NFC. Commonplace uses include transit tickets, bank cards and passports.
