Bluetooth is a wireless technology that is primarily designed for use in mobile devices, such as mobile phones. Unlike Wi-Fi, Bluetooth is designed to be used over short distances — typically just a few metres. The benefit of Bluetooth is that it draws very little power, so it’s kind to your phone’s battery. It does, however, have some drawbacks, not least that Bluetooth connections are typically much slower than Wi-Fi connections.

We purchased this printer because of its network capability. In our office we have a POS laptop, that gets used at multiple desks. With the network feature, as long as the laptop is logged in to wifi, this printer works flawlessly. We did have a little issue getting it configured properly, but that was before I contacted the company. I simply visited their website, requested help, and within 30 minutes the printer worked perfectly… So while the printer is great, the service was phenomenal…

If the IP address is in use, you will receive a response of the form “Reply from 192.168.1.192: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64." The numbers in this message may vary. If you receive a response in this format, repeat this step, increasing the final number by one each time (i.e. 192, 193, 194, etc.). When the response includes the text "timed out" or "Destination host unreachable," the IP address is most likely open. Take note of this open IP address. Beware of this device! I have been using Square for years successfully (swiper unit plug in). I received this unit as a present, and was excited to try it out. I set it up at home, double checked that it was connected by bluetooth, and ran several successful practice charges. I took it to an art show this past weekend, and following the EXACT same instructions linked the reader to my phone via bluetooth. After inserting the customers card into the unit, after each and every sale my phone indicated "Transaction Complete". I returned to the square menu and checked that the proper amount was listed for each transaction. I had just short of $2000 in credit/debit card sales. 3 days later when no money had transferred into my banking account I called square. Seems the contactless and chip card reader wasn't properly synced with my phone (even though my phone indicated the reader WAS connected via bluetooth) and was not operating correctly. It didn't capture a single complete credit card number. Im not sure if this reader works properly without also purchasing the charging dock. Im not the first person this has happened to. According to Square they are not responsible and Im on my own. 10 of 40 customers requested electronic receipts. Square reached out to them . As of today I have heard from 1 of the 10. I wish I had never used this reader. It's fussy -- and it doesn't tell you when there is a problem with a transaction. I learned a hard lesson (which cost me just short of $2K. Never again. If you operate a mobile food cart or food truck, THIS is the receipt printer you want. In all Honesty, it took me more time to read through the manual than it did to connect to my Ipad. For the record, I am using this receipt printer with Square Register. This is an easy and entry level printer. Getting going is fast. The price is reasonable at generally less than $200. We rate this high for a receipt printer if you want something easy to use that does the job a thermal printer should do. Have you ever made a hands-free call in your car or listened to music on a wireless headphone? If so, then you probably used a device running on Bluetooth technology. These days, almost any personal electronic device comes with Bluetooth – from your laptop to your mobile phone. There is a roll of paper that ships with the receipt printer. An auto cutter mechanism cuts the thermal receipt paper for you when you make a sale. Bluetooth Nightmare. I shelled out a bunch of cash to be able to use the Bluetooth printer with my iPAD/Square Register system. Initially it was a pain in the neck to connect to and it would randomly drop the connection. After a couple months the printer stopped connecting. Very disappointed in this product. When you pay $400 plus for a printer you should expect it to work as it is stated. I would not recommend by this product. You will be embarrassed in front of your customer when the printer fails you. It could severely impact your reputation and business when your less experience techy people are trying to reconnect the printer and you will be sadly disappointed in a couple months when it finally fails to connect just like the other reviews stated. Bluetooth communication and functionality cannot be guaranteed on all Android devices. Two other wireless technologies are Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and Certified Wireless USB. The UWB approach requires devices to transmit information over a wide spectrum of radio frequencies using lower power transmissions. Several competing organizations are trying to establish UWB standards. With Certified Wireless USB, computers send data wirelessly through adapters that plug into USB ports on computers and other devices. Data rates are much higher with this approach, but the range of transmission isn't as large [source: Bluetooth]. Learn more here.

This printer comes with a disk. If you are using it with an Ipad, the disk is useless. The only thing I am disappointed with at this point is that I can not print by business logo on my receipts. This is not a downfall of the printer but the program that I am using. This printer prints the business logo ‘”IF” you are using a Mac or Windows based POS system.
