Regarding the printers, several of our Square customers have had to return their TSP100iii bluetooth printers due to compatibility issues. Star’s TSP654II Bluetooth model is the best choice. They make a model specifically designed for either iOS or Windows/Android systems. Here is a link with information and the specific model numbers for each: http://www.posshopper.com/star-tsp654ii-bti-thermal-receipt-printer.html

Went to print out some stuff after work only to discover that this particular Staples is trapped in 1998 with painfully outdated computers, a prehistoric version of Internet Explorer and dial-up speed internet that worked maybe 40% of time for the 10 minutes I was there. Do you think nobody in this city has a goddamn Gmail account, Staples? DO YOU?

The computer took a dump all over itself trying to open a .zip file for 5 minutes so I gave up and left, $3 poorer and not a printed document in sight. The only good thing about going to this Staples location was that I saw Emma Stone walking down 35th on my way home. Seriously guys, she’s even prettier in person.

Square systems are primarily compatible with Ethernet or Bluetooth interface printers (depending on the tablet you are using, Android tablets with USB ports and USB On-The-Go or USB Host mode can use USB interface printers). The compatible printers for Square systems are as follows:

Not only does a receipt printer print those nice square receipts that tuck nicely into your clients’ wallets and make your business look more professional, but they can also save you real money and reduce impact on the environment pretty quickly.

The amount of time the paper in your printer depends on your sales. If you’re making hundreds of sales per day then you’ll be replacing the roll of paper a couple times a month. That’s not bad. Paper rolls for your printer are pretty cheap.

To enable printing to your receipt printer from Square, you first need to connect your receipt printer to your iPad. Once your printer is connected, under Settings > Printers, tap your connected receipt printer and make sure “Receipts, Bills, and Reports” (under Print From This Device) is toggled on. This screen is also where you can enable printing kitchen tickets (if you have a kitchen printer).

Many companies selling hardware such as printers are becoming more and more conscious of the impact their products have on the environment, particularly in terms of power consumption, but there are other factors to consider. If you are thinking of using your regular inkjet or laser printer to print sales receipts for your customers  instead of investing in a receipt printer, consider this…

This video takes a look at which receipt printers you can use with Square and the Square Stand with iOS, and which printers are best for your business. The USB printers can ONLY print with the Square Stand. We go over the TSP100, TSP100ECO, TSP100III, SM-S220i, and SP700. For more information on these printers, see our Square Compatible Receipt Printers article: https://posguys.com/blog/product-info
I do not nor do I need a receipt printer. All I want is a USB cash drawer that costs less than $235. Square, if you’re reading this, please add support for a wider variety of USB cash drawers. Your focus is small businesses. Not sure why you have only the most expensive cash drawer (more than 2x the Price of the Square Stand) as the only USB one supported). Surely it can’t be that hard to come up with new drivers?
Some systems, like Clover, require that you use their proprietary hardware. Clover’s hardware is custom-built for POS, and combines multiple functions in one piece of hardware (for example, the scanner is built into the register). Be very careful about buying this type of equipment from a third party, as there are a lot of scams out there.
