I own a deli and this system has been amazing! I set it up myself and I’m not tech savvy at all… Not just that but all the girls and I learned to use it the first hour. Very simply, straight to the point and does everything you need!

But my point is that an adding machine paper-receipt looks unprofessional in some businesses.  An inexpensive ink jet or better, a multitasking network office printer that is already in use would make a LOT more sense for me.  I’m sure they are robust and work fine, they just don’t suit my business and I don’t like being so limited in the TYPE of printer I can use.

This is an impact printer. So it makes a noise when it prints. Why would you want this? You might want it if you are in an area such as a kitchen where thermal paper receipts don’t print as well because of moisture in the area. You would not want this noise around customers. But if you have a moist area such as a busy kitchen this impact printer may be what you can use. Here is the user manual for the Star Micronics SP742ML.

quick question! i was checking out a customer who purchased a printer with squaretrade and i mentioned that he didn’t need to do anything else with it, because he was a rewards members and it registers automatically with his account. my IA overheard me and corrected me saying that customers DO still have to either call or register their plans online for them to be in effect. which is true? when I first got to staples i was told it’s automatically registered if they’re rewards members so I always assumed so, are there exceptions based on different types of plans or anything?

In terms of ringing up sales, Square and PayPal Here have a lot of similar features. You can add multiple tax rates, and both apps allow you to apply different taxes to different items. This allows you to, for instance, apply state tax to certain items and a liquor tax to other items. Both include the option to display different tip suggestions at checkout. You can also create and apply different discounts to entire orders, and Square allows you to apply these discounts to individual items in the order. In addition, both apps can issue partial and full refunds, and you can refund orders up to 120 days for Square, and 180 days for PayPal Here.

We do not deliver on Sundays, but do sometimes deliver on Saturday depending on the carrier that is delivering your order. The best way to determine the date of delivery is to check the status in My Account .

At first glance, everyone is drawn in by Sqaure’s seemingly low price of $99, but for the whole set up (tablet w/ card swiper, cash drawer, and receipt printer) Clover actually comes out to be a few dolars cheaper. And what businesses can get by without the cash drawer and receipt printer?

While a lot of businesses no longer deal with large amounts of cash, as with printed receipts, your customers still need it as an option. With a cash drawer, you can accept cash payments and give change. As with many POS peripherals, the cash drawer may connect to the register via USB cord, or it could even be wireless.

Note that you may connect a barcode scanner via USB cable to the Square Stand, but if you are using an iPad without Square Stand, the barcode scanner must be a bluetooth barcode scanner. For more information on the correct bluetooth scanner to use when connecting directly to an iPad, click here.

With resistance to the most brutal environments, APG drawers feature sturdy steel frames powder coated in cloud white or black to resist scratches and other external abuse. Industrial grade steel ball bearing slides on the drawer won’t wear like silicon wheels and promote silky smooth opening and closing every time. We really like the Apple MFi certification with the auto connect feature. We also like the small footprint of this receipt printer. Overall this is one easy and fast printer to setup. The Apple MFi makes it real easy. You just turn the printer on within range of your iPad.

Square has the option to process payments offline. In order for Square to offer the option to process payments offline, they accept no responsibility for any declined payments taken while offline. PayPal Here does not have an offline option to process payments. It is unlikely that PayPal Here will add this option in the future, as PayPal does not want to be liable for declined payments.

Square is pretty popular for Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) so it’s no big surprise that you can also use the system with a kitchen printer. It takes a little more to get it all set up, you’re going to need to plug the kitchen printer directly into your wireless router, but once you do, its easy to send an order back to the kitchen. No walking, no running, no yelling, just tap print. Easy right? The other thing about a kitchen printer is that it’s designed to be in the kitchen, its built for the heat and the humidity. Whatever abuse your kitchen has to dish out, don’t worry this printer can take it.

If you have a Square Stand, in addition to the printers above, you can use certain USB interface receipt printers. The following receipt printers are only compatible with the Square Stand, not the Square card reader:

Just click the Transaction and the Receipt will preview on the right-hand side. At the bottom, you’ll see the receipt number (ex: Receipt #H8R5). Click that and it will show you the digital version of the receipt. From there you’re good to print on the standard 8×11 printer paper.

The free Square Dashboard app works in sync with Square Point of Sale and lets you view your live sales data in seconds. You can access powerful analytics, and easy tools to help you track and improve your business.

For quick, high-volume receipt printing, a thermal receipt printer is usually a good choice, though hot environments, such as a food truck, might use an impact printer. The printer may be either wired (Ethernet) or wireless (Bluetooth) and you’ll need one per register.

  1. kWh = 195(This is if you printed 12 hours per day and left the printer idle for 12 hours a day for 365 days a year. Even if you printed continuously for 24 hours per day, 365 days a year you would use 333 kWh per year, which is still way less than a new inkjet printer.)
I suggest that Square makes available some advice or a list of cheaper Bluetooth printers that customers could consider.  Also, please make the printing of receipts from the Square customer web site easier.
Of all the times I`ve used Square, no one has asked for a receipt. I just tell them the purchase will appear on their statement as “so and so business” They say OK and go about thier business. Appartently I look so honest they could care less!
The most basic way both Square and PayPal Here take card payments is through a magnetic stripe card reader that plugs into the headphone jack of your device. These basic card readers are available for free from PayPal and Square’s websites. Square readers can also be purchased for $10 at many stores like Best Buy, Walmart, and more (see where to buy Square for locations), and include a $10 rebate code with purchase. PayPal Here readers are also available from certain retail locations, including some Staples and Office Depot/Office Max locations, for between $10 and $15. Additional PayPal Here readers can also be purchased online, and are $15 for any beyond the first free one. Please note the card readers are encrypted specifically for their own app, and are not interchangeable.
