I have my own iPad 2 and square stand. I was Looking for compatible hardware and this was excellent. The register and printer work great, I even ordered more papers for the printer so we will use it long term.

In just about any retail setup, you will require a barcode scanner so you can scan items to ring them up. The scanner typically pairs with a label printer, which, though not technically a piece of “POS hardware,” is still essential to your POS, as are any additional scanners you may need to use for inventory purposes.

I don’t like that I can’t view another store’s inventory from the app. Very often, I find myself saying, “We don’t have that in-stock here, but I know it’s in-stock at our other location.” It’d be very helpful to be able to type in an item and view quantity in-stock for all locations. I also HATE that there are not “tickets” available anymore. I own a music store that offers instrument repairs and we also have special orders. For instrument repairs – the amount is variable depending on what needs done and I also notate the transaction with the instrument type, brand, serial number – what parts were used, and what was done under the “Quantity and Notes” section. I don’t want to have to look up that information and type into a transaction with the customer standing at the register. In the other app, I could do all of that when no one was in the store and save it as a ticket. Then when they come into the store, all I had to do was pull up the ticket and they were good to go. Same with special orders. I don’t want to add inventory into Square, assign it a price, add the SKU, put it into a category, set the quantity, etc., if I’m not going to STOCK the item. So for special orders, I like to just type in the information under “Custom Amount,” but I do like to notate the transaction under “Quantity and Notes” with the title and SKU so I can look back and see what it was. I don’t want to do that typing when a customer arrives, so I prefer to save it as a ticket. Now I can’t do that.

Status lights on the printer are available in this bar at the top. When the cover is open, you’ll get a warning, when it’s out of paper you’ll get a flashing warning telling you you’re out of paper, so very handy, and then there’s a little icon that kind of tells you what the different errors mean. The M30 prints at a nice 8 inches per second. The M10 prints at a slightly slower but still very good 6 inches per second.

In this Square Stand basics article, we’ll talk about:

Although Square only lists a few Honeywell and Zebra scanners as compatible with the Square Stand, we tested a number of USB interface Honeywell and Zebra scanners, and the majority worked with the Square Stand. The only scanners that did not work were older models, so we recommend using a scanner from within the past five years or so. Keep in mind, only USB interface Honeywell and Zebra (formerly Motorola/Symbol) scanners work with the Square Stand. If you have a specific model scanner and you’re unsure if it will work with the Square Stand, give us a call and we’d be happy to test it out.

In addition, there are a number of Bluetooth barcode scanners that can work with Square with limited functionality. These scanners can scan barcodes and look up products by SKU or product name, but they do not automatically add products to the current order. Bluetooth barcode scanners we tested include:

Built specifically to work in environments where heat and humidity can erode the type on the kitchen order, the SP700 is an ideal printing solution. Printers are pricey. Choosing a new printer can often be too expensive for many buyers whether the equipment is for everyday printing or for something special. Because printing does cost so much for many…

The first thing to do is plug the Star Micronics printer directly into an available ethernet port on your router and power up the printer. Once the printer is powered up, make sure your Android device is on the same network as is the printer. Next, fire up the Square App, log into your account, and swipe right from the left edge of the screen. From the sidebar, tap Account, and then tap Settings. The Settings window (Figure A) should list Printers — tap that and select the printer to be used.

The functionality of the Square stand doesn’t stop at the stand, the fact is that it has a built in USB hub that makes adding a cash drawer to your system as easy as plugging it in. Now you’re going to need a USB cash drawer of course (not all of them are), but once you’ve got one, just plug and go. Once you’re up and running all it takes is a tap on your iPad and the cash drawer kicks right open.

Connect your Square Stand with a compatible iPad and recommended hardware accessories to help run your business. Before purchasing a Square Stand, make sure you’re using a supported iPad. You can identify your iPad model on Apple’s Support site.

I do not nor do I need a receipt printer. All I want is a USB cash drawer that costs less than $235. Square, if you’re reading this, please add support for a wider variety of USB cash drawers. Your focus is small businesses. Not sure why you have only the most expensive cash drawer (more than 2x the Price of the Square Stand) as the only USB one supported). Surely it can’t be that hard to come up with new drivers?

I’m interested in eliminating some cables in my restaurant so I’ve been researching Star’s Wireless printers. Is the Star Micronics TSP143IIIW printer compatible with my Square POS app? My current printer is located pretty far away from my wireless router so I’m trying to find a non-ethernet option.

Square allows you to create individual business profiles for different locations, which can be tied to the same or different bank accounts. You can have up to 75 locations per Square account. Once you have multiple locations set up, new items can be added to a single location or multiple locations, and pricing for an item can be the same or different across locations.

If you’re looking for a Bluetooth barcode scanner, the Socket Mobile 7Ci (which is on the list of officially compatible hardware for the Square Card Reader for iOS) works with the Square Stand as well.

You can buy a Linksys AC1750 Wi-Fi Range Extender and connect it to the facility wifi. Plug the Ethernet printer into the wired port on the extender and connect the iPad to the extenders wifi ssid.
