We’ve already had a number of posts about Square, the new mobile payment platform launched by Twitter creator Jack Dorsey today, but we’re going to keep posting on it, because it’s just that good. Most of the earlier stories covering the launch of Square included a screenshot of an example receipt that is displayed on Square’s site right now. The actual receipt doesn’t quite look like that, but it’s close.

You can add your logo and text to your receipt. This is done with software that is included with the receipt printer. By adding your logo to your receipts you have a place to advertise your business. You can also put your phone number on your receipt or your website URL. This is a good thing to do if you’re selling at a craft show, fair, farmers market and etc. The customer may not remember your name and may not go online to search for your website. But if you put your website on the receipt you have a better chance of the customers visiting your website to make a purchase.

An update 11/21/15 Had it working fine with Amazon local register until Amazon shut it down, so bought the PayPal chip and card reader- the updated paypal iOs app will not print to this printer. (iOs 9.1/ iPad 3). The workaround I found was to turn this printer in to an airprint printer- it’s a bit of a hack, instructions are out there, problem being you must have a host computer on the network. To be clear- this is a PayPal issue- not a fault of the printer.

Overall, this is a great printer. I can’t complain about the price because for similar thermal printers, this is relatively cheap. Any cheaper and there are issues with printing mechanics and whatnot.
A note about cash drawers: For the most part, cash drawers connect to Square via your receipt printer. As long as you’re using a Square-compatible receipt printer, any printer-driven cash drawer that works with that printer will also work with both the Square Stand and Square with a reader. There is a USB cash drawer option that bypassess a receipt printer and plugs into the Square Stand directly, the APG Vasario USB, but this cash drawer is much more expensive (around $230, compared to printer driven cash drawers, which start at around $95). In addition, all manual cash drawers will work with either set up (they do not open automatically at the end of a transaction, you simply open them manually) and start at around $75.
