I don’t have any personal use of this but this item says it takes usb input and converts it to the connection that would come out of the printer from what I understand.  It may work, it may not.  There are no reviews that are helpful of the product.

Square Point of Sale (formerly Register) is the free point-of-sale app that gives you everything you need to run and grow your business. Accept debit and credit cards with a Square Reader for magstripe, and accept EMV chip cards and Apple Pay with the Square Reader for contactless and chip. Funds are deposited fast—see money in your bank account in one to two business days. Use your POS to keep track of sales and inventory in real time, manage items and employees, and view analytics about your business. All this with no long-term contracts or surprise fees.

Connecting your Square system using iPad(s) on a LAN is ideal for larger retail businesses and restaurants. Using a LAN allows you to share printers such as kitchen and order fullfilment printers that can be shared between multiple iPads running Square. Square iPads on a LAN use Ethernet (LAN) and Bluetooth printers and scanners. Cash drawers are connected directly to a receipt printer.

You can buy a Linksys AC1750 Wi-Fi Range Extender and connect it to the facility wifi.  Plug the Ethernet printer into the wired port on the extender and connect the iPad to the extenders wifi ssid.

Square has the option to process payments offline. In order for Square to offer the option to process payments offline, they accept no responsibility for any declined payments taken while offline. PayPal Here does not have an offline option to process payments. It is unlikely that PayPal Here will add this option in the future, as PayPal does not want to be liable for declined payments.

Square is one service for your entire business, from a register in your pocket to reports on your laptop. Whether you’re selling out of your trunk or opening your twentieth location, Square helps make business a little less work.

iPad-based POS (Point of Sale) systems have become increasingly popular. In addition to saving money on upfront costs, these systems have streamlined operations in the modern merchant and Square Register is quickly becoming one of the most convenient and coolest ways for small businesses to process transactions. Tablet and smartphone based systems are also being increasingly used for inventory control – from the retail floor to the warehouse – and by sales personnel assisting customers in-store and on the convention floor. Everything you need to get started taking in orders and money (except the iPad, Square Stand and the cash for the till!). This Square Stand accessories kit includes Square credit card reader (use it for making a smart phone mobile terminal), receipt printer with USB interface, 2 rolls of receipt paper, 16″ Square Stand cash drawer with till, and all cables for connecting the printer and Square Stand cash drawer.

I do appreciate your post though and I wanted to let you know that we are working to provide support for more printers and your feedback is welcome! For example, we recently launched support for several Epson printers which can be used with Square on iOS devices (the full list of printers is here).

The Star Micronics TSP143Uii thermal receipt printer has fast print speeds (150 mm/second) for heavy use environments like cafes and retail stores. The TSP143Uii connects directly to Square Stand through a USB cable for easy set up. Thermal receipt printers use heat to print receipts on special heat-sensitive paper. They are fast, quiet, and clean to operate. TSP143Uii has an auto-cutter that severs receipts so they are easy to grab. The TSP143Uii Eco printer is ecologically friendly with a halogen-free recycled plastic cover, packaging made from recycled materials, and the printer automatically goes into a low-powered standby mode when not in use. Printer accessories are available for this printer including a splash-proof cover, vertical stand and extended warranties, such as the Swap-A-Star or Extend-A-Star warranty.

Bluetooth printers get moved around a lot. You won’t have cable connecting your device to your iPad and reader. Bluetooth is like wifi or wireless internet. If you’re selling at a farmers market, at a stand on a beach, or at an event such as a concert, circus, political rally or etc. this is something to consider. You simply configure your iPad for the printer and set the printer down beside you. It’s a rugged device and takes a beating.

My account was deactivated for something that I was wrongfully accused of doing. Someone filled a dispute saying they didn’t authorize the $200 transaction (2 months after the transaction) square TOOK $200 from my bank account and closed my account (that was only my second dispute in 2 years with them and the first dispute was settled in my favor). Here we are almost 4 months later after I started using another site for my business, and finally I get an email that says “the $200 dispute was decided in your favor” I thought… well finally. Makes sense because the idiot that did the dispute lives across country but claimed they never even made the payment (like how the heck could I make a payment on behalf of you when the invoice was sent to your email) but anyway they decided in my favor… YAY I GET MY $200 back! NOPE… WRONG… SORRY NOT TODAY… square then tells me I have to wait another minimum of 90- maximum of 180 days for the money to go back in my account!!! IM SOOO P*SSED OFF!!!! So there is literally $200 sitting in a square account no longer active and I just have to wait another 100+ days! Not happening. I contacted BBB and will be posting on every social media out there. They have the WORST customer service ever. If you even get the LEAST bit aggravated on a call with them, they just hang up.. DO NOT, I REPEAT DOOOOOONOOOOOOTTTT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE

Can ayone tell me if you can connect two printers to Square as well as a bank POS system? I have a coffee shop in Canada and we are looking at installing Square next month but would like to have a printer connected wirelessly to our kitchen as well as a receipt printer at our front counter. In addition to that I also need to have a bank pin pad and printer connected as Square does not accept debit in Canada (been waiting for that for a long time Square people!). Thanks.

Square is pretty popular for Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) so it’s no big surprise that you can also use the system with a kitchen printer. It takes a little more to get it all set up, because you’re going to need to plug the kitchen printer directly into your wireless router, but once you do, its easy to send an order back to the kitchen. No walking, no running, no yelling, just tap print. Easy right? The other thing about a kitchen printer is that it’s designed to be in the kitchen, its built for the heat and the humidity. Whatever abuse your kitchen has to dish out, don’t worry this printer can take it.

Adopt highly elastic steel spring and pulley ball bearing shaft, designed for frequent opening/closing. Fast & clear printing, with low power consumption & low operation cost. Support auto open/manual…

Square works with any printer driven cash drawer, as long as the cash drawer is compatible with the receipt printer you’re using. We successfully used Square with APG, MMF, and POS-X printer driven cash drawers (hooked up to our TSP100III Ethernet printer), but any printer driven cash drawer should work. If you’re looking for a cash drawer to use instead of the official cash drawers, we recommend:

Yes. The paper is design for newer type of NETS terminal and it can fit into current or older NETS terminal as well as credit card terminal. It can be use for mPOP Integrated receipt printer and cash drawer or hand held printer SM-S220i as well.

Ideally, your card reader will be EMV-compliant, meaning it accepts chip-card payments, and will accept contactless NFC payments (mobile payments) as well. Many credit card terminals also print receipts.

The word “cash register” has a slightly different meaning these days, and with new-school cloud POS systems, the “cash” part is usually dropped off, as the “register“ usually consists only of a computer or touch-screen tablet PC with an enclosure. Most registers only need an operating system and a computer of some kind to run your POS software on. Depending on which POS system you choose, this piece of register hardware will probably a laptop or an iPad. You will need one computer/tablet per register.

Regarding the printers, several of our Square customers have had to return their TSP100iii bluetooth printers due to compatibility issues. Star’s TSP654II Bluetooth model is the best choice. They make a model specifically designed for either iOS or Windows/Android systems. Here is a link with information and the specific model numbers for each: http://www.posshopper.com/star-tsp654ii-bti-thermal-receipt-printer.html

Square also has the option to use the Square Stand instead of the Square card reader. Unsure about whether you should use the Square Stand or a Square card reader for your business? See our Square Stand vs. Square Card Reader comparison.

Please note, these printers can only be used with iOS devices at this time. I don’t have a timeline for when they’ll be supported with Android devices yet. But I’ll report back when I have an update! 😀

This paper roll is made to fit in a variety of common credit, debit, and point of sale (POS) machines, so you may only need one type of roll even if you have different machines throughout your business.

I know this because I actually used Square today to buy myself and Dorsey coffee at Sightglass, which is already using the payment system. I made the purchase at 8:47 this morning and the receipt was immediately emailed to me in the form of a link to a Square page. On this page is a receipt featuring the logo of the vendor, their email address, and their Twitter handle. Below that, it shows the amount and the exact time of purchase. And below that is a Google Map of where the transaction was made and your signature.

  1. I’m interested in eliminating some cables in my restaurant so I’ve been researching Star’s Wireless printers. Is the Star Micronics TSP143IIIW printer compatible with my Square POS app? My current printer is located pretty far away from my wireless router so I’m trying to find a non-ethernet option.

Star is a proud long time supporter of printing from iOS and Mac OS X environments and their developers! The application note in the Downloads section of this FAQ provides instructions on how to configure the TSP100LAN and TSP650 Star POS Printers with Square Inc’s Square Up App for the iPad.
** If you are using the Square Register app, this is the USB version of the Star TSP654II Printer and must be used with the Square Stand Hardware. You will need a Star ethernet or bluetooth printer if you are using Square or a similar Point of Sale app with the tablet or device by itself.
