In addition, there are a number of Bluetooth barcode scanners that can work with Square with limited functionality. These scanners can scan barcodes and look up products by SKU or product name, but they do not automatically add products to the current order. Bluetooth barcode scanners we tested include:
The Ethernet printers compatible with Square Register are thermal printers. They require heat-sensitive paper and won’t work with non-thermal receipt paper. These types of printers aren’t ideal for kitchens or high-temperature working areas.
Square is not interested in using anyone but Star. And their attitude is that they frankly don’t care. I know, I have emails from them about it. If I was to guess, I would bet they have a deal with Star that funds their (insert pizza parties, to silk pockets). But lets be realistic. I mean it has to be something viable, right? The fact that Star uses the same print protocals that Epson uses has no bearing on an Epson receipt printer not working. It goes in the same line as Android devices can’t use bluetooth devices… although that new chip reader is bluetooth. It is a lack of customer service and they need to step up to the plate, or someone is going to come along and take their business away from them.
Square systems are primarily compatible with Ethernet or Bluetooth interface printers (depending on the tablet you are using, Android tablets with USB ports and USB On-The-Go or USB Host mode can use USB interface printers). The compatible printers for Square systems are as follows:
The Star Micronics SM-S230i is light weight at only 7.7 ounces. It is small and easy to carry around. If you’re someone who sell at a farmers market, craft fair or some other place where mobility is very important, the Star Micronics SM-S230i may be what you need. It uses thermal paper and connects to your iPhone, iPad with bluetooth or USB. Here is the user manual for the Star Micronics SM-S230i.
To create your own bar codes and labels, you’ll need to use a third-party application. At the moment, we don’t support bar code and label printers and can’t guarantee compatibility, but many customers have success using the DYMO Label Writer 450 and labels with Square.
STAR MICRONICS RECEIPT PRINTER – Integrates easily with Square POS. TSP143L Thermal receipt printer with Ethernet interface (cable included) Gray color Internal power supply (power cable included) Auto cutter
Bought this strictly to print receipts with the Amazon Local Register iPad App and card reader, as it is the only receipt printer supported at this time by that platform. (Bought it used via an Amazon re-seller; works perfectly. It was easy to set up on the network using the downloadable Windows software. Once set up, my iPad and the Amazon Local Register app found the printer and linked to it easily. I haven’t tried using any of the other options (like printing our logo or printing coupons), but for what I bought it for it works perfectly. It prints extremely fast and clearly. The cutter works well, too. It is nice that it can be mounted to a vertical surface if desired.
The M10 and M30 are very similar form factors, this is set to top load, this is set to front load. In the top load version, your cover opens up, your paper just drops in. The printer can also be converted to the front load version. In the front load, your paper drops in like so.
Why, for God’s sakes, can we not have a receipt that takes up a single page instead of three pages??? I’ve been a customer of square-enabled businesses for at least 4 years, and Square hasn’t come up with a solution for this? I saw where someone asked this question in April but didn’t get any responses. Please, please, please? Is there some setting that everyone else in America is using, but I’m not? Please help me.
If you want a small and easy to carry receipt printer, this may be it. It weighs less than half a pound. It is easy to carry around. For people who sell at craft shows, farmers markets and historical fairs this may be the receipt printer.

According to Square’s Help Center, the iPad version of their app supports many Star Micronics printers. In order to work, these printers must be plugged into a wireless router via Ethernet cable that is accessible to the iPad. Visit Square’s Help Center and search for “print receipts” to learn more.
Wondering if anyone has experience using the Square POS receipt printer and cash drawer that come with the Square Stand (Star Micronics 143iiU and APG VB554A-BL1616 both USB connections) and re-purposing them to use with the Shopify system?
This printer is fast. Thermal printers print very fast, and the internals are actually much simpler the ones at my work. You simply open it up, drop the paper inside (yes, it’s a drop in, which makes it much easier to replace the roll once it has run out) and then feed the paper over the top.
Square allows you to create individual business profiles for different locations, which can be tied to the same or different bank accounts. You can have up to 75 locations per Square account. Each location can have duplicate or different inventory items as other locations. Once you have multiple locations set up, new items can be added to a single location or multiple locations, and pricing for an item can be the same or different across locations.

To answer your question more directly, not at this time. We only support a number of Star Micronics receipt printers at this time. Also, I fixed the link above, so you should be able to check out your options now.
At the heart of the whole Square system is the software. There’s so much you can do with it you’ll wonder how you ever survived with your old dumb cash register. The Square register app provides you with a whole ton of reports and dashboards so you can track transaction activity, manage orders, check out daily summaries and a lot more. In addition to reports you can manage your back office, upload your inventory and personalize your receipts. Plus, when you use Square you get all of this software functionality for free, you pay a flat 2.75% on all your credit card transactions that you swipe through the stand, and that’s it.
