Connecting your Square system using iPad(s) on a LAN is ideal for larger retail businesses and restaurants. Using a LAN allows you to share printers such as kitchen and order fullfilment printers that can be shared between multiple iPads running Square. Square iPads on a LAN use Ethernet (LAN) and Bluetooth printers and scanners. Cash drawers are connected directly to a receipt printer.

Square Register on an iPad is compatible with a wide variety of third-party hardware accessories. Below, you’ll find a list of supported accessories, where to purchase them, and information on getting set up.

Square: With Square Stand, merchants download the Square Register app, which is the all in one POS. Within the app, users are able to manage payments, reporting, etc. One downfall of this type of system is that merchants only have the business management tools Square builds into the app.

Receipt Printer USB Star Micronics TSP143UII Print paper receipts, daily sales reports and summaries right from your iPad. Send digital receipts via text or email with Square Register. The TSP143Uii Eco receipt printer is a fast, efficient, and reliable receipt printer that connects directly to Square Stand via a USB cable. The Star Micronics TSP143Uii thermal receipt printer has fast print speeds (150 mm/second) for heavy use environments like cafes and retail stores. The TSP143Uii connects directly to Square Stand through a USB cable for easy set up. Thermal receipt printers use heat to print receipts on special heat-sensitive paper. They are fast, quiet, and clean to operate. TSP143Uii has an auto-cutter that severs receipts so they are easy to grab. The TSP143Uii Eco printer is ecologically friendly with a halogen-free recycled plastic cover, packaging made from recycled materials, and the printer automatically goes into a low-powered standby mode when not in use. Printer accessories are available for this printer including a splash-proof cover, vertical stand and extended warranties, such as the Swap-A-Star or Extend-A-Star warranty.

Just wanted to update this thread with a solution I came across that could work for your multi-page print issue. When you are at your print preview page, there should be a Scale option available (it’s hiding under “More Settings” on Chrome/”More Details” on Safari or Firefox). Reducing the Scale below 100 will reduce the size of the image and you can keep lowering it until it reaches the size you’re looking for.

As we mentioned above, Square is comprised of a point of sale app, which is available for free in the app store, and the Square card reader. The Square card reader is what comes to mind when most people think about Square. It’s the small, white square that plugs into the headphone jack of your device. There are multiple versions of the Square card reader that are now available: the traditional magnetic stripe card reader, an EMV chip and magnetic stripe card reader, or an additional NFC payment reader (for tap and go payments like Apple Pay). All of these options are available from Square’s website.

Square is pretty popular for Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) so it’s no big surprise that you can also use the system with a kitchen printer. It takes a little more to get it all set up, because you’re going to need to plug the kitchen printer directly into your wireless router, but once you do, its easy to send an order back to the kitchen. No walking, no running, no yelling, just tap print. Easy right? The other thing about a kitchen printer is that it’s designed to be in the kitchen, its built for the heat and the humidity. Whatever abuse your kitchen has to dish out, don’t worry this printer can take it.

A note about cash drawers: For the most part, cash drawers connect to Square via your receipt printer. As long as you’re using a receipt printer, any printer-driven cash drawer that works with that printer will also work with both the Square Stand and Square with a reader. There is a USB cash drawer option that bypassess a receipt printer and plugs into the Square Stand directly, the APG Vasario USB, but this cash drawer is much more expensive (around $230, compared to printer driven cash drawers, which start at around $95). In addition, all manual cash drawers will work with either set up (they do not open automatically at the end of a transaction, you simply open them manually) and start at around $75.

2. USB Connection: If the cash drawer is connected via USB cable to the Square Stand: When you accept a cash payment, tap “Tender” from Square Register and your cash drawer will open automatically (If you’ve enabled PIN protection, you will need to provide the passcode).

None of the printers we looked at used ink. The printers use thermal paper. In other words, the paper is heated by the printer to print the customer’s order on the receipt. There are color printers but we don’t think you need this. Most people throw their receipts away or tuck them out of sight. So there’s really no reason to spend the extra money on a color printer.

The printer that Square supports is one of the largest used brands in the receipt printer market.  They are not getting kickbacks on printers as the printers are sold by hundreds of places including Amazon, and the buyer doesn’t know you are buying it to print with Square as the printer is also used by 100s of other POS systems. More printer options would always be better, but as this is one of the industry standard printers it only makes sense they support it.
