The STAR MICRONICS SM-T300I is also a light weight receipt printer. But it’s very durable and rugged. It’s also Apple MFi certified for iOS phone and iPads. It also works with Android and Windows. It’s been tested to take a little bit of beating and is used by people who are outside a lot. Having said that the price is higher than other printers. If you need something rugged, this device may be the one for you. But if you don’t. You will want to look at something else as this device can get expensive. The SM-T300i is easy to use. There is a well written and very detailed user manual. The user manual gives details on how configure the receipt printer and how to load paper. Here is a link to the Star Micronics SM-T300i User Manual.

Went to print out some stuff after work only to discover that this particular Staples is trapped in 1998 with painfully outdated computers, a prehistoric version of Internet Explorer and dial-up speed internet that worked maybe 40% of time for the 10 minutes I was there. Do you think nobody in this city has a goddamn Gmail account, Staples? DO YOU?

The STAR MICRONICS TSP654IIBI is fast and easy to configure. It is Apple MFi certified. It has auto connect and so it will connect to your iPad automatically. If you want to setup your receipt printer fast, this may be one of the best options. There is no serial cable, ethernet cable or USB connection. That seems like a positive benefit. If you move around a lot or you don’t want to mess with cables the STAR MICRONICS TSP654IIBI may be want you want.

Nothing about registering Square Trade is automatic except that Staples emails you if you have a rewards card. The email is a reminder to register your plan. Every single plan I’ve purchased Square Trade has required me to send a receipt and register manually.

When you buy a printer you need to make sure it works with Square. You should carefully review the information that Square has provided in their website. Wonderful, helpful, considerate, competent, efficient, respectful, caring and pleasant staff at the print center. Jennifer and Samsara went out of their way to help with my printing order and to accommodate me with a discount coupon I had temporarily misplaced. Many thanks for the excellent help, courtesy and great professionalism! My favorite Staples store!

In terms of ringing up sales, Square and PayPal Here have a lot of similar features. You can add multiple tax rates, and both apps allow you to apply different taxes to different items. This allows you to, for instance, apply state tax to certain items and a liquor tax to other items. Both include the option to display different tip suggestions at checkout. You can also create and apply different discounts to entire orders, and Square allows you to apply these discounts to individual items in the order. In addition, both apps can issue partial and full refunds, and you can refund orders up to 120 days for Square, and 180 days for PayPal Here.

Note that you may connect a barcode scanner via USB cable to the Square Stand, but if you are using an iPad without Square Stand, the barcode scanner must be a bluetooth barcode scanner. For more information on the correct bluetooth scanner to use when connecting directly to an iPad, click here.

Square works with any printer driven cash drawer, as long as the cash drawer is compatible with the receipt printer you’re using. We successfully used Square with APG, MMF, and POS-X printer driven cash drawers (hooked up to our TSP100III Ethernet printer), but any printer driven cash drawer should work. If you’re looking for a cash drawer to use instead of the official cash drawers, we recommend:

This price comparison includes the most basic official hardware available for each option. There are other, more expensive hardware options available, see our in-depth reader and Square Stand guides for more hardware options.

Please keep in mind that mobile Bluetooth printers (such as the SM-S220i or SM-T300i) cannot connect with printer driven cash drawers. Mobile printers can only be used with manual cash drawers. In addition, manual cash drawers will always work with any iPad set up.

Edit to say that the network issues I mentioned were tied to the wireless router we were using. Replaced that piece and the printer started working great. I still recommend purchasing as a package for better price and customer service, but not a bad piece of equipment.

This Setup is for Ipad Square Stand Register. You’ll need to purchase a Square Stand Separately to make a complete setup. Installation is pretty simple. Cash Drawer connects to back of the printer, and Printer connects to Square Stand. Then you are ready to go.

So let me get this straight; after I email/text the customer the receipt I should then email it to myself and then print it from my email (after formatting if I like)? Can’t I just print from the app without buying a special credit card printer? Guess not…

When you right-click on the existing printer, you should see both printers under each option. You will need to change the port in printer propertied to an available USB port.

Have not purchased this printer, but wanted to let people know that this is not the only printer that will work with Square. I have two Star Micronics printers, one Ethernet and one Bluetooth and both work fine with the Square app for iPad. I also have Ethernet based cash drawers that connect through the printers and those works just as well. This probably has the easiest set up, but it is not the only way.
